1. New York Yankees

The most talked about team to make this trade is the one that just beat him. Could the Mets actually do it though? Trading deGrom, in the prime of his career, would be something these two franchises don’t do. They’ve made 15 trades together since 1966 and haven’t really moved big names in their prime.

So, the Mets would definitely need a big haul from the Yankees. We’re talking, Gleyber Torres and/or Miguel Andujar, Justus Sheffield, and Chance Adams big. Now, if you’re the Yankees, it is a trade that you really have to make. Outside of Luis Severino, everybody in their starting rotation is a huge question mark, something they can’t afford to have in a year where they are pursuing another World Series ring.

He also isn’t a short term fix for the Yankees, he can solve their problems beyond this year as he still has two more years of arbitration left. He could help the Yankees in their pursuit of more championships with their young core. Sure, just two years ago, the Yankees were sellers at the deadline, but this year they’re buyers and should go for the big fish. They have the pieces needed to make the deal happen.

It would be miraculous if this deal was pulled off. It would likely become one of the most scrutinized deals for the next 10-15 years, but media scrutiny shouldn’t scare either team off. The deal would honestly help both sides in the long run, the only question is whether or not they want to help the other in the long run.
