  • Regarding league-wide ownership, you will be provided the website(s) that applies to the player listed (i.e. Byron Buxton is 33.7% owned on ESPN and 56% owned on Yahoo!).
  • Stat line if it applies.  A rookie being called up to the bigs for the first time may not have a line yet.  In this scenario, you’ll find a description of their minor league stats.
  • Long-term or short-term help.  Some players listed may only help in short-term.  Others may fill long-term needs.

MLB Fantasy – Waiver Wire Options:

OF/1B Jake Bauers – Tampa Bay Rays (ESPN-8% owned)(Yahoo!-6% owned)

It must be noted that one, Jake Bauers is a different human than Jack Bauer of 24. Two, he is OF eligible on ESPN and 1B eligible on Yahoo!  Once Brad Miller was designated for assignment, Bauers got the call from AAA and went 0-8 in his first two games.

Those games are behind him now. He’s currently on a five-game hit streak with four runs scored, a homer, three runs batted in and a steal. Pretty solid for a top 100 MLB prospect. Has the ability to steal some bases as he has had double-digit steals in his last three minor league seasons.

He should stick with the big league team, but will likely be used more against RHP. Would be more willing to use him in daily, deep, or AL-only leagues.

OF Michael A. Taylor – Washington Nationals (ESPN-24.3%)(Yahoo!-33%)

If steals is what your team is lacking, look no further than Michael A. Taylor. He ranks fourth in all of baseball with 17 stolen bases.

He has a ton of talent offensively. The return of Daniel Murphy is a boost for Taylor and the National’s offense as well. Taylor is not only a speed guy though. He showed power last year with 19 home runs and a .486 SLG%.

Looks like the power numbers may not match last years. However, he is walking at a career best 8.5% of the time. This is good news for a guy with his wheels. We’re only 62 games into the season and he’s already tied his career high in SB. Hopefully he can improve his .wOBA to create more runs with his speed.

MLB Fantasy – Waiver Wire Options:

This recent first rounder is back from injury, and looks to regain his spot atop the rotation.

SP Carlos Rodon – Chicago White Sox (ESPN-18.6% owned)(Yahoo!-33% owned)

    More from FanSided

Rodon was unfortunate to have to face the Red Sox in his 2018 debut after being shelved on the 60-day DL. It has been a tough go for the lefty health-wise. Shaking off a bit of dust, he went five innings and struck out seven hitters, surrendering two runs and two walks.

Looking past the loss though, are some underlying numbers. Rodon did not lose any velocity, in fact he was throwing his sinker as hard as he has since debuting in 2015 averaging 94.66 mph. His fastball still sat nearly 94 mph on average as well.

If he can stay healthy, look for his K% to stay in the mid 20’s, which is where he has been most of his time in the majors. If strike outs is what you seek, he could be a 9-10 K/9.

RP Hector Rondon – Houston Astros (ESPN-21.3% owned)(Yahoo!-44% owned)

Try not to confuse the two pitchers in this post. “No Ragrets!’ Not even a single letter?” Hector RoNdon, former Cubs closer was called upon June 6, 9, and 10 to finish off the Seattle and Texas. He did not disappoint, going 3.1 innings with five strike outs and three saves.

It should be noted that Ken Giles was used in the 9th last night and earned the save. It may still be too early to call Rondon the closer, but he has been licking his chops at the opportunity.

He is lighting up the radar gun with his heater and sinker staying above 96 mph on average. Rondon’s K% is at a career high as well at 30.2. Should Giles struggle, look for Hector Rondon to take over the closer role for the Astros.
