13. Adam Jones
It would have been unthinkable at the start of the year that longtime leader of the Baltimore Orioles, Adam Jones could potentially be on the trade block this summer. Over the last 11 seasons, Jones has become one of the most beloved players in team history and is an important figure in the community on many levels. He has embraced Baltimore as his home, and the thought of seeing him wearing a different jersey is painful to Orioles fans.
Jones is a five-time All-Star with four Gold Gloves in center field. His best days may be in the past, but he still has plenty to offer any contender who acquires him for a stretch run. Jones has lost a step defensively, and should move to one of the corners. That is something he has been unwilling to do with the Orioles, and he has probably done enough for the team to earn that right. After a slow start to the year at the plate, Jones has brought his line up to .284/.303/.474 with 14 doubles, 10 home runs and 28 RBI.
The 32-year-old Jones has not been silent about his desire to play for a winner and has control over this future. He has played for the Orioles long enough to reach 10-and-5 status and can block a trade to any team he does not feel comfortable with.
As nice as it would have been to see Jones effectively spend his entire MLB career with the Orioles (he played 73 total games with the Seattle Mariners before being traded), it is best for both sides that he move on this summer. Jones deserves to play for a winner and the Orioles need to move into a rebuilding phase.
