4. New York Knicks

There’s nothing the New York Knicks love more than shelling out money to broken stars. If Enes Kanter doesn’t opt in this season, the Knicks are looking at way too much cap space for James Dolan to have at his disposal. Dolan should never be given cap space. Because he spends it on Joakim Noah and Carmelo Anthony. And you can bet your bottom dollar that Dolan would take that dollar and give it to Thomas along with $20 million other dollars.

To make matters worse for Dolan, the team needs a point guard. Frank Ntilikina is being used more off-ball and the team was so desperate for a scoring guard that they thought Emmanuel Mudiay was the answer. If Trey Burke didn’t go all Jeremy Lin, the Knicks would have gotten approximately two points from their point guards after the trade deadline. Those two points would have been courtesy of Enes Kanter, who was inexplicably playing point guard because Jeff Hornacek drew names out of a hat.

Thomas doesn’t exactly fit David Fizdale’s system because Fizdale’s system requires the point guard to be Mario Chalmers. But those are just semantics.

If Thomas wants to go to a team that will showcase his talent because they have 20 unearned nationally televised games, well, he should go to the Lakers. But if he wants to play against the inferior Eastern Conference, thus inflating his numbers, the Knicks are just the east coast Lakers.
