Los Angeles Angels

Kelvin Herrera, RP

The Angels are trying to get Mike Trout back to the postseason. They know they have a special player whose talent they can’t waste for another year. So, they brought in Justin Upton and Shohei Ohtani to help contribute. It worked for the beginning of the year, with the Astros early struggles the Angels were the class of their division. Now sitting in third place in their division and 5 games back of the Wild Card, they need to make a move.

There are a fair number of holes on their roster, but the bullpen needs to improve now. They have the 22nd best bullpen ERA in baseball. They’ve had 23 total save opportunities, only converting 12 of them. So, they should bring in the available reliever that’s dominating baseball right now.

Despite just turning the closer role over to Blake Parker, Kelvin Herrera would walk in and take the job. He has both an ERA and WHIP below .9. He would, more often than not, be able to enter ballgames and be counted on to lockdown an inning. There wouldn’t have to be questions about it. Nobody else would have to stay ready. Mike Scioscia would be able to be calm with a reliever in the game.

Sure he would cost a a pretty penny. This year, the Angels shoudn’t worry about that. If they’re lucky enough, Herrera will enjoy his time in southern California and resign with them after this year. This way they could have his dominance for more than just this year. However, even if Herrera just helps the Angels this year, one more Mike Trout playoff push is worth it.
