Baltimore Orioles

Michael Fulmer, SP

Orioles don’t have a chance this year. They know it, we know it, everybody knows it. They have the league’s second worst offense and the worst starting pitching staff. Manny Machado should be traded before the end of the year, officially marking the end of an era in Baltimore. After they blindly gave Chris Davis $161 million, they likely won’t have the funds to resign him at the end of the year anyways.

So, they’re building towards the future. I think they’ve come to realize how important starting pitching is, after having the second worst starting pitching over the last three years. So that should be where they start. They should look to get pitching prospects or elite hitters as they begin to trade their expiring contracts. Players like Machado, Adam Jones, Zach Britton, and Brad Brach can be big contributors for contenders.

Now, the Tigers have become open to taking offers for Michael Fulmer. With the Tigers rebuilding as well, it may be difficult to sell them these players, but trading one or two prospects to the Tigers for Fulmer would be worth it. The former Rookie of the Year has a career 1.176 career WHIP and despite bad number this year, has had some good games. Increased consistency would turn Fulmer into a star who is eligible for arbitration until 2022.

Fulmer is the type of player who the Orioles could build their starting pitching staff of the future around. They should try to bring him in now.
