NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 potential destinations for Tyreke Evans
4. Philadelphia 76ers
The 76ers showed their blueprint last year. They could not attract a big name free agent, so they gave J.J. Redick an enormous one-year contract to fill a need. Repeating this process is not out of the question.
Philadelphia is in a much better position this year than they were last. After a season that saw them finish third in the East, they have offseason hopes of landing LeBron James or Paul George. If they miss out on both players, their money will be good for someone else. Evans won’t get term from Philly, but he could get the biggest payday possible out of them.
He would also fill a big hole. With Markelle Fultz injured, the Sixers didn’t have a one-on-one perimeter player that teams were afraid of. Evans scored 1.02 points-per-possession on isolation plays last season. That landed him in the 83rd percentile. He posted .97 points-per-possession in the pick-and-roll, good enough for the 85th percentile. He would take a lot of pressure off of Ben Simmons as the primary ball-handler for the Sixers. And that’s not enough, he shot 40 percent from three. So, when Simmons is on the floor and has the ball in his hands, Evans can be used as a catch-and-shoot guy.
Evans checks all the offensive boxes for Philadelphia. The Sixers were trying to put together a package to acquire him at the deadline, but we know how that turned out. If Philly can’t lure a superstar, Evans could be the biggest beneficiary.
