Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite Battle Royale. This week we saw an exciting pro-am tournament, two huge announcements and another week of battle pass challenges.

The week was a big one for Fortnite fans, especially those on the Nintendo Switch, who can now join in on the fun. This wasn’t the only announcement this week. On Tuesday during the pro-am tournament, Epic Games gave us more details on their venture into esports, including how you can get your hands on some serious prize money (more on this in a minute).

Finally, if you haven’t noticed, the battle pass challenges have been moved from their regular Tuesday change-over to Thursdays. Given how busy this week was, let’s dive right in.

Battle pass challenges: Week 7

Deal damage with pickax to opponents (0/250)

This is a pretty annoying and tedious challenge, but it isn’t difficult. There are two trains of thought here. You can quickly accumulate pickax chops with the quantity over quality method by going to busier places like Tilted Towers and swinging as fast and as much as you can. You’ll likely meet others doing the same. This may take a few games but it’ll be fast.

The other method, if you aren’t in a rush, is to pickax downed enemies in duo or squad mode. Once an enemy is knocked, eliminate them with the pickax until you’ve met your 250 hp quota.

Search chests in Risky Reels (0/7)

This challenge will spread the loot at Risky Reels even thinner than it already is, given that there will be double the amount of people going there. Still, the chest challenges are not that difficult.

The Northeast corner of Risky spawns the most chests. Both the covered picnic building at the East wall and the movie set building on the North wall spawn two chests each. There is also usually one between the two locations on an RV.

If you choose to knock these off one at a time, grab the chest behind the big screen as it provides some cover.

Consume foraged items (0/20)

Two words: Wailing Woods. You can easily finish this challenge in one game with a trip to the Woods. The woods are packed with shield mushrooms so you’ll come out of them not only having completed your challenge, but with full shield (and building materials).

Score a goal on different pitches (0/5)

The World Cup of soccer is upon us and Fortnite is celebrating is style with a soccer (futbol?) challenge! In a recent update, the game took your favorite location, that busted up village full of loot south of Junk Junction, and remodeled it into a massive soccer stadium. It’s impossible to miss so you might as well start here.

There are two more actual pitches, one in the middle of Pleasant Park and one below that, directly in between Snobby Shores and Tilted Towers. There are a handful of other locations that will allow you to score a goal as well. They can be found in detail here, thanks to our friends at GosuNoob. Here is an in-depth look at all of them:

Follow the treasure map found in Pleasant Park (HARD) (0/1)

Your weekly free battle stars require a trip to the Tilted Towers suburbs. Here is the exact location of the Pleasant Park treasure map ending:

Assault rifle eliminations (HARD) (0/5)

This one is pretty simple. I wouldn’t worry about changing the way you play for this one because chances are you’ll have five assault rifle eliminations within the first few matches you play.

Eliminate opponents in Shifty Shafts (HARD) (0/3)

Try to get to Shifty Shafts early in the battle pass week while it is still busy with everyone completing this challenge. Land, find a weapon and go to work. If you end up with a shotgun right away, head down to the mines for some close-ranged combat.

If you want to secure a weapon and potentially knock off your three eliminations in one game then try landing at a nearby house or at the taco shop/orange bridge to the South. Gather some quick loot, then head into Shifty to clean up what is left of the initial firefight.

Limited time game modes

Blitz and Teams of 20 are out, Sniper Shootout and 50v50 both return in their third versions. Chances are you remember 50v50 as it’s only been gone for two weeks. We’ve seen Sniper Showdown twice before as well, and it is a great game mode to brush up on your long range skills. Here’s a breakdown of the two returning LTM’s:

Sniper Shootout -The only weapons available in this mode are sniper rifles and scoped AR’s. This is a great way to get sniper practice in, both in aiming and not getting hit as you will have to learn both quickly.

The crossbow has been removed from this game mode, which is fine as you probably only used the crossbow to scare your other squad members anyway.

50v50 – Two teams of 50 on either end of the map. Chances are you remember this LTM from two weeks ago. There have been some slight changes, though. Epic seems to be promoting more action as building material collection has been lowered and ammunition and supply drop spawns have been raised. The initial circle has been widened slightly as well. If you still need your supply drop challenge from last week, play this mode.

E3 2018: Fortnite Pro-Am and announcements

As expected, Ninja and his EDM artist partner Marshmello won the first ever Fortnite Pro-Am in extremely exciting fashion. The gaming was edge-of-your-seat excitement and in the end, the world’s most famous Fortnite player took the million dollar prize to the charity of his choosing. Here is the final showdown that won them the match:

The Pro-Am also featured a huge announcement in regards to the future of Fortnite. The Fortnite World Cup is coming (get excited). We will soon be able to compete for actual money in the world of Fortnite, and it sounds like it will be a very cool concept.

Despite everything that went down this week in the Fortnite world, the biggest announcement was that Nintendo Switch gamers can now partake in all of the fun. Fortnite has finally hit the Nintendo platform.

Update v4.4 patch notes

Shopping carts are back (thank God) – The bug has been fixed and we can once again perform our Jackass stunts in the world of Fortnite. The carts have been one of the most popular additions to the game, and we’re all happy that Epic solved whatever problem they were having promptly.

Thermal Scoped AR – The game’s newest weapon is the thermal scoped AR. The thermal allows you to follow heat signatures through the scope, giving you a better chance at tracking and eliminating other players. The thermal comes in “epic” and “legendary” forms and deals more damage than the regular scoped AR.

Elimination of the week

This week’s EOTW comes from NoahJ at the Pro-Am, who used a bounce pad to land safely and eliminate Kinstaar and take home the solo warm-up match victory.
