NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 offseason targets for the San Antonio Spurs
1. DeMarcus Cousins
As the opening post of this slideshow suggested, the Spurs are lacking raw talent. The best way to address this? Sign one of the most coveted free agents in recent history.
If San Antonio sees Gay and Green opt-out, (and a few others moves are made) they should have enough cap room to bring in Cousins and fill out the rest of their roster. Supposing they do so, the combination of LaMarcus Aldridge and Cousins would contend for the best post-duo in the league.
Cousins is a versatile scorer, capable of bludgeoning opponents in the post, but also spacing the floor to leave room for Aldridge. His attitude and defensive effort are always concerns, but this past year, however, “Boogie” seems to have matured a bit and was genuinely supportive of his teammates in the playoffs despite his heartbreaking Achilles injury.
On that note, partnering with Aldridge would also give Cousins the ability to confidently rest his legs some nights knowing his partner in the post is more than capable of producing at an All-Star level with or without his help. Aldridge averaged 23.1 points per game on 51.0 percent shooting while appearing in 75 games for San Antonio last year.

In summary, the Spurs’ best move to make them immediate title contenders would be to sign Cousins to form the “Frontcourt of Marcuses” (yes, I’m naming it now). This might be unlikely if the Spurs invest in a max extension for Kawhi but it’s an interesting possibility.
