Brazil and Switzerland drew 1-1 in the World Cup on Sunday, June 17. Here are all the highlights from the match.

Brazil started their World Cup campaign with a somewhat uneven performance against Switzerland, settling for a 1-1 draw. They had some impressive moments, with Philippe Coutinho, Willian, Gabriel Jesus and Neymar showing flashes of what the rest of the field is presumably afraid of, but they faded in the second half and conceded a sloppy set-piece goal.

They had some nice moments of attacking play in a first half when they pegged Switzerland in their own half, but the goal came from a moment of individual magic, Coutinho cutting inside onto his right foot and curling an unstoppable shot off the post and in. The goal was among the best of the tournament so far.

Brazil couldn’t extend their advantage, however, and Switzerland grew into the game in the second half, controlling the ball for more sustained periods while posing a threat from set-pieces. They equalized in the 50th minute, Steven Zuber heading in emphatically from a corner. There was a hint of a push on Miranda, but the goal stood.

Brazil had some decent chances while the game wound down, but a combination of some strong Swiss defending and profligate Brazilian finishing meant the match finished level. This wasn’t an impressive performance from the selecao, but in a forgiving group, they should remain confident of going through.
