Seattle SuperSonics (2007-08, 20-62, -8.04 SRS)

This is going to sting Sonics fans but I have to do it. The Thunder pretty much from the moment they became the Thunder (save for a horrendous first year) have been a competent team. Propped up by three future Hall of Famers in Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James Harden, the Thunder made the NBA Finals just four years into their tenure in Oklahoma City and have only missed the playoffs twice.

The Sonics had their ups and downs. Thankfully for the fine folks of Seattle, there were more ups but there was no season more down than 2007-08, the 41st and final season of the Seattle SuperSonics.

Seattle went out with a whimper limping to a franchise-worst 20-62 record. The team was gutted prior to the season with star Ray Allen moving to Boston for a collection of pieces most notably Jeff Green. Rashard Lewis—Allen’s right-hand man in Seattle—was dealt in a sign and trade to the Orlando Magic.

These moves opened up the team financially for their move to Oklahoma City but also gave Seattle a chance to see what they had in No. 2 overall pick Durant.

The Sonics lost plenty throughout the year (including a 14-game losing streak in December and January) but Durant easily cruised to Rookie of the Year, a sollem sight for SuperSonics fans who were seeing a franchise savior playing a lost year in their uniforms.

Durant and the Sonics left Seattle on a high-note winning their final game in Seattle over the Dallas Mavericks (99-95) but the damage was done, Seattle’s last season was the franchise’s worst yet.
