5 moves the Milwaukee Brewers could make to say on top
1. Trade for Manny Machado
The usual suspects whenever a big player is on the trade block are being batted around when it comes to Baltimore Orioles shortstop Manny Machado. The Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves are all viewed as likely landing spots for the All-Star. The Brewers, though, have not been labeled as a potential destination for Machado, but they absolutely should be.
After a relatively promising season last year where he hit .277/.324/.407 with 15 home runs and 14 stolen bases, 23-year-old Orlando Arcia has flopped this year at shortstop for the Brewers. He is hitting just .204/.238/.265 with two homers and two stolen bases. Arcia has also struck out 45 times against only eight walks. Those are the types of numbers that would make even Alcides Escobar blush with shame.
Arcia had looked like the long-term answer at shortstop for the Brewers — and he still might be — but Machado should be targeted to provide a huge upgrade at a key position for the rest of this season. Arcia can be optioned to the minor leagues to work through his issues at the plate, which stem mostly from his lack of discipline.

The Brewers are an all-around solid lineup, but they are lacking the one true superstar to elevate the rest of the batting order. That’s where Machado comes in. Milwaukee still has one of the best collections of young talent in the league and has more than enough to bring the Orioles to the bargaining table.
