15. Oakland Athletics

The Athletics have been pretty good so far this year. However, last week they got swept by the streaking Astros. So far, the Athletics are winning the games they are supposed to win, but have been unable to punch with the big boys with a lot of consistency. While the playoffs look like a long shot right now, the A’s have had a good season.

14. Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies won both of their series last week, helping keep them in the playoff race, both in their division and the Wild Card. They’ve been surprising teams this year, and a series win with the Brewers showed them that they can compete with teams right now, the future is now. If they can continue this momentum, don’t be surprised to see the Phillies in the playoffs.

13. Los Angeles Angels

The Angels were miserable last week. They won just 1 game and are on the verge of playing themselves out of playoff contention. The loss of Shohei Ohtani cannot be an excuse, they need to figure themselves out, or they’ll waste another year of Mike Trout.

12. Washington Nationals

The Nationals had looked like they figured everything out. Then, they went 1-4 last week, unable to even beat the Blue Jays. While they came into the year as the presumptive favorites in their division, they are in danger of not even making the postseason. They need to start to support their outstanding pitching so that they can stop this skid and get to the playoffs, trying to win a World Series with Bryce Harper.

11. Cleveland Indians

The Indians lead the miserable AL Central. They have not been as good as they were expected to be. Now, after not winning series against division-mates last week, they are showing their weaknesses, seemingly unable to get consistent pitching outside of Corey Kluber. They need to pull themselves together if they want to actually be a threat in the playoffs.
