10. St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are still in it. However, if they continue to play the way they did last week, that won’t stay very long. They lost series to the Padres and Cubs, part of what has them just 5-5 in their last 10 games. The team has the ability to make the playoffs, and pitch their way deep into the playoffs, but for now it seems like they just need one more offensive piece to help them get there.

9. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have roared back to life. Forget their weak start, they are 7-3 in their last 10 games and look ready to win the NL West since nobody was able to fully pull away from them while they struggled. The Dodgers offense has finally showed up, as they lead the National League in home runs since May 17th, no longer wasting good starting pitching. Plus, once they get healthy, their starting pitching will be on of the best in the league, making them a scary team for the playoffs.

8. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are 11-5 in June and are back in the lead in the NL West. After dominating April, tanking in May, they are now back alive and have been getting good pitching and hitting. Now, they need to sustain this performance for the rest of the season so that they can remain a playoff team, and a real threat in the playoffs.

7. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs were up and down last week. Some disappointing offensive performances saw them lose a series to the Brewers, but they then rebounded by winning their series with the Cardinals. They remain one of the best teams in the National League and should be expected to continue with strong performances.

6. Atlanta Braves

The surprise Braves have kept it going. They went 5-1 last week and have not shown any signs of fading as many expected. The Braves have a solid lead in the NL East over the Nationals and will hold on as long as they stick with what has working. Solid pitching and strong offense from the top 5 in their order will be able to get them to the playoffs. All they have to do is not change anything.
