3. Jeurys Familia

The 2017 season will certainly go down as one that All-Star closer Jeurys Familia would love to forget. He was suspended to start the year after a domestic abuse charge and then pitched in only 26 games before landing on the disabled list with blood clots. When he did pitch last year, the right-hander was ineffective, posting a 4.38 ERA in 24.2 innings while walking 5.5 per nine.

Familia has looked more like the pitcher who led MLB with 51 saves in 2016 so far this season. He did make a short stay on the DL with a sore shoulder, but was back as soon as he was eligible to be activated. Familia has thrown 30 innings this year and has a 2.70 ERA and 14 saves. His command has been much better, and he has walked only 3.0 per nine with 9.9 strikeouts per nine, which matches a career high.

There will be a run on relievers at the deadline this year, especially rentals. The days of elite prospect hauls for rental closers are in the past, but the Mets can still bring in a few mid-level minor leaguers for their closer.

Assuming Familia can come off the disabled list and pitch effectively for a few weeks, the Mets will have no problem finding a taker for his services. The 28-year-old can be one of the toughest pitchers in the league to take deep, and even at slightly reduced strength, he can be a huge asset to a contender.
