6. Clint Capela

Despite having a limited range of skills, Clint Capela emerged this season as one of the most valuable players in the NBA. He led the NBA in field goal percentage and was the perfect pick and roll partner for James Harden and Chris Paul, rolling to the rim and seemingly always finding himself in the exact position necessary to catch a lob in order for an easy basket. He is also very adept at setting screens that free up his teammates for open shots or drives to the rim. His mobility and agility are also above average for a man his size which is imperative for a big man in the modern NBA considering how often they are asked to switch out of the pick and roll and guard on the perimeter. Also, he’s shot over 50 percent from the free throw line two years in a row, which is a major improvement even though it still remains his most glaring weakness.

I’m sure Capela would be a great addition for any team in need of a center, any team that has a point guard adept at running the pick and roll, but it’s very hard to imagine Cappella being as important or as well utilized anywhere besides Houston. This is probably irrelevant anyway, at least for this offseason, considering that the Rockets will certainly match any offer sheet presented to Capela, though I’m sure that won’t stop some other team from trying to sign him anyway, if for no other reason than to make the Rockets pay him the max.
