Russia vs. Egypt live stream: Watch World Cup online
By Zach Bigalke
Russia and Egypt continue World Cup Group A play in Russia with a matchup in Saint Petersburg on June 19. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
As the hosts of the 2018 World Cup, Russia’s minimum goal is to reach the knockout stage. Uruguay are the favorites in Group A, but the Russians take on Egypt and Saudi Arabia as their other two opponents. They cannot sacrifice points against either if they hope to avoid joining South Africa as the only hosts to miss getting out of their group.
Aleksandr Golovin is the youngest player on Russia, but he could also be the most crucial player. The versatile central midfielder has been rumored to entertain interest from several Premier League clubs. A strong World Cup by Golovin will be necessary to advance out of Group A. It would also open up the pocketbooks of Europe’s top clubs looking to secure his services.
Russia’s opponents in their match are Egypt. The Pharaohs qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1990, and had high hopes in the lead-up to the tournament. But the injury suffered by Mohamed Salah in the Champions League final put a damper on those hopes. His five goals led Egypt in World Cup qualifying, but also tied him for the lead among all African players in CAF qualifying.
Salah joined his Egypt teammates on the flight to Russia, but he has not yet trained with the team since his shoulder injury. The best expectations in the weeks ahead of the tournament were that Salah would miss Uruguay but be able to return by the second Group A match. That puts him squarely on target to return to the pitch in time to face Russia.
A draw won’t be enough for either team in this contest, which should make for some back-and-forth action on a Tuesday afternoon.

Everything in this match comes down to Salah returning for Egypt and taking the pitch in decent fitness. If he does follow through on that goal, the Pharaohs will have the decided upper hand. If Salah cannot go for this Group A encounter, Russia has a legitimate shot to pull off the upset or at least get one point from the encounter.
Thus the prediction splits in two. If Salah plays and plays well, Egypt wins this contest 2-1 or 3-1 in a walkover. If Salah is sidelined, though, Russia will keep Egypt to just one goal and will earn the draw. In neither scenario will the home crowd leave happy from Saint Petersburg Stadium.
