NHL Awards night! If we’re being honest with ourselves right now, this is setting up be rife with way more drama than even what’s going to happen during the Draft.
We already know who’s taking home the coveted first overall pick slot on Friday. But who’s taking home the Hart Trophy tonight? Nathan MacKinnon? Maybe. Maybe not.
What about the Vezina Trophy? Is this finally Pekka Rinne’s year, or does he lose tragically to Connor Hellebuyck? Whatever occurs, we’ll be there. (Well, here, watching on television.)
The ceremony is being held in its usual spot of Las Vegas, and with the Cinderella story that was the Vegas Golden Knights destroying our hearts and souls throughout the season, expect plenty of armor to show up and show out. Just don’t expect many Washington Capitals players to attend (except Nicklas Backstrom). They’re likely off still celebrating the Cup win somewhere in the Twilight Zone.
As is the case each year, the NHL is also bringing with it a few legends and a few more than deserving special guests. Eric Lindros and Mark Messier will be presenting awards, as will actors/actress Colin Hanks, Jim Belushi and Lynda Carter (Wonder Woman!). Amanda Kessel and Meghan Duggan, gold medalists from the U.S. Women’s Hockey team, will also be on hand to present awards.
Additionally, survivors and first responders from last year’s horrific Las Vegas shooting will be there, along with surviving members of the Humboldt Broncos’ tragic bus crash. Be sure to check out the entire ceremony for full guests and presenters.
