DraftKings Main MLB Picks June 20: Stack Coors instead of paying for pitching
We have an even split on our Wednesday with seven early games and seven prime time games. the Angels and Diamondbacks are both off today. That means lots of action on both slates! This one will focus on the main slate. This slate has more good options in the middle tier than the afternoon slate. How do we balance that with Coors Field? Let’s check this out!

Rain is likely to delay the start of the Pittsburgh-Milwaukee game, but it should play sometime tonight. Washington and New York will also be dodging showers, but they don’t look likely to cause much of a problem.
The only wind worth mentioning is a 10 mph wind blowing in from center in Denver. That wont work to suppress power to the point where I would fade this game.
We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!
These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

Next: DraftKings Pitcher Plays
Top Tier:
Gio Gonzalez ($10,200): This is a tough sell since Baltimore has the ability to load the lineup with all right handed hitters. Gio has handled them pretty well so far. The Orioles are hitting a decent .245 against Gonzalez, but they only have four homers and 11 runs in 143 at bats. The 33 strikeouts leave a lot to be desired. I can see cases for using and fading Gio. I’m leaning towards the fade with a strong middle tier, but I am here to inform you of all of the options.
David Price ($9,700): The strikeout potential for Price could be the best on the slate. We saw Sale ring up 11 Twins last night, but this offense still hits lefties pretty well. They are only hitting .227 against Price himself in 128 at bats, but the Twins have scored 14 runs in that span. I’m not sure I like this big markup, but I certainly understand it, and I certainly understand anyone who uses Price. I want a little exposure to him myself.
Middle Tier:
Jonathan Loaisiga ($8,300): Loaisiga dazzled in his major league debut, picking up 23.1 DraftKings points on the Rays. The Mariners have a little more punch than the Rays, but they were dominated by a guy that has an ERA of nearly 6 at Yankee Stadium last night. There is a ton of potential for Loaisiga here. I could even understand using him as your SP1 and stacking Coors, that’s how much upside he has.
Chad Kuhl ($7,200): Dear DraftKings: Thank you for keeping the price low on Chad Kuhl, especially at home. I appreciate the bargain when stacking Coors Field bats. Sincerely, a loyal player. Kuhl has not given up more than three runs in a start in over a month, and has a 3.43 ERA in seven home starts. He also racked up 34 DraftKIngs points in his first start against the Brewers this year. Kuhl is going to far outperform his price once again tonight, and is going to be once of my starting pitchers in every lineup tonight.
Bargain Pitchers:
Lance Lynn ($6,700): You have to have stock in antacids to chase this, but Lynn has 106.7 DraftKings points over his last five starts. On top of that, Lynn has a 3.13 ERA at home this year. Lynn is trending in the right direction, and his best work has been done at Target Field. Boston is only hitting .212 off of Lynn in 52 at bats with a pair of homers and six runs. There is good potential here with the way Lynn has pitched lately.
Brent Suter ($6,500): There isn’t a lot to like about Suter. A 4.30 ERA is nothing to write home about. However, the current Pirates are only hitting .240 against Suter in 50 at bats with no homers, three runs, and a gaudy 11 strikeouts. Well, that’s a gaudy number when you aren’t known for strikeouts. This game is also in Pittsburgh, which gives Suter a nice park boost. There is solid potential here.
Felix Hernandez ($6,300): If you are just finding this column, you think I’m nuts. If you’ve been reading this for a while, you know I have stats to back this up. In nine starts at New Yankee Stadium, King Felix is 6-1 with a 1.41 ERA. That’s not a fluke, folks. The current Yankees are hitting a strong .275 off of Felix, but they only have three homers and six runs to go with 18 strikeouts in 69 at bats. Hernandez is nowhere near the pitcher he used to be, so there is significant risk involved given his 7.71 ERA on the road.
Washington Nationals vs. Andrew Cashner:
The Nats are hitting .338 off of Cashner in 74 at bats with three homers and 11 runs. There is more where that came from! Daniel Murphy, Mark Reynolds, and Anthony Rendon have the three homers. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper are by favorites for tonight, along with Juan Soto. This could be another huge night for Nationals hitters.
Houston Astros vs. Nathan Eovaldi:
The Astros have 10 runs in just 73 at bats off of Eovaldi with a .260 average. Only Evan Gattis and Tyler White have homered off of Eovaldi so far, but that could change tonight. I still like Gattis here, but I definitely want my exposure with Altuve, Correa, and Springer. Josh Reddick is worth a look as well since he is 5-11 in his career against Eovaldi.
Kansas City Royals vs. Austin Bibens-Dirkx:
ABD gave up six runs (four earned) to the Royals earlier this year. If you are every going to stack Royals, this could be the place. They are all insanely cheap, with Moose costing the most at $4,000. I like Merrifield and Salvador Perez here as well. If you go with the full stack, the potential of Hunter Dozier is nice, and Ryan Goins is making name for himself in KC. Alcides Escobar is worth a cheap look as well.
Colorado Rockies vs. Seth Lugo:
The Rockies went back to back to back last night for the first time since 2011 off of Jason Vargas. Now Lugo isn’t as bad as Vargas, especially at Coors Field. He also isn’t at as much of a platoon disadvantage as Vargas. However, Blackmon and CarGo are worth the markup. Arenado, Trevor Story, and Ian Desmond could be as well.
New York Mets vs. Chad Bettis:
Bettis was serviceable against the Mets in New York, but he has a 7.76 ERA at Coors this year in six starts. It wont get any better here. Brandon Nimmo remains an elite play. Conforto is starting to heat up on this road trip, which is good news for DFS and fantasy players alike. The Toddfather, Amed Rosario, and Jose Bautista are all worth a look as well. So is Mesoraco. There is a ton of potential on both sides in this game once again.
Next: Other notes for 6-20
Top Tier:
I respect Felix enough not to put a full blown stack out there, but it would be foolish to fully ignore the Yankees at home. Stanton is 2-5 with a solo homer off of Felix. Brett Gardner is 13-36 with a homer and three RBI. Both of them are worth a look.
I’m finally back on Mookie here. He is 3-5 with a homer and three RBI off of Lance Lynn. Jackie Bradley has also homered off of Lynn. I do like Benintendi here as well, but I wont put a whole lot of Red Sox in the lineup with the way Lynn has pitched over the last three weeks.
Jake Junis has been hammered over his last two starts. With the way the Rangers hit the Royals last night, I’m more inclined to use Rangers instead of Junis. Choo and Mazara are both really good options. The power of Joey Gallo and the hot bat of Jurickson Profar are in play as well.

Middle Tier:
Mitch Haniger, Nelson Cruz, and Jean Segura all bear mentioning against a guy making his second major league start, but after they were all dominated by Domingo German last night, I don’t trust any of them.
I’m not all that crazy about any Pirates, but Cervelli and Starling Marte are worth a look with a lefty on the hill. If you need to save some cash, Jordy Mercer could be a sneaky pick.
Travis Shaw is the only Brewer that has even scored a run against Chad Kuhl in 90 at bats. 90! That’s domination, folks. Caveat emptor to any Brewer buyers tonight.
Brian Dozier came up mostly empty against Sale last night. Once again, he is the only Twin to homer against tonight’s pitcher. Dozier has both of the Twins home runs against David Price. However, Eduardo Escobar is probably a better investment if you are chasing the Twins side of this.
Bargain Shoppers:
I really don’t like the price on Charlie Morton, and Carlos Gomez is a big reason why. The Rays as a whole are hitting .290 off of Morton in 62 at bats. Gomez is 6-16 with a homer and five RBI off of Morton. Wilson Ramos is worth a look as well if you need to go cheap.
Baltimore has a ton of righties to use against Gio, and 80% of them fall into this tier. Trey Mancini, Joey Rickard, and Mark Trumbo all fall here, and have all homered off of Gio. Adam Jones is slightly more expensive, but has also homered off of Gonzalez. I also like Valencia and Schoop here, and you can never go wrong with Machado against a lefty.
