How can this information help you for the Travelers Championship? It helps you to know what golfers will be chalk this week (recency bias) and it shows that winning GPP lineups almost always require 2 or 3 pivot plays. If you want more information about last week’s US Open, click here!

Travelers Championship – Popular Golfers

It is impossible to predict the chalk plays each week with certainty, but here are a few golfers that I (and the DrafKings PGA community) believe will garner high ownership.

Paul Casey $9600

Bubba Watson $8800

Xander Schauffele $8600

Zach Johnson $8200

Chesson Hadley $7300

Rory Sabbatini $7200

Travelers Championship – Pivot Plays

Jordan Spieth $10,600

Spieth is the defending champion at the Travelers, but his form is so bad that I do not see many people rostering the number 5 golfer in the world. I would set his ownership right around 10% in GPP tournaments, which will be below everyone else in the 10K range. Last year he hit every fairway and displayed surgical precision with his wedges. Even though his form is shaky, he is still a top player and can turn it on at any time. The course suits his eye and with a possible sub-10% ownership, the upside is definitely there.

Jason Day $9,800

A missed cut at the US Open, missed cut in last year’s event, and Patrick Reed – Paul Casey sandwich is a recipe for low ownership. Day is a world class player and will likely garner 10-15%, but he has tremendous win equity and a solid price-tag. My model loves Day, and at that ownership he is one of my top plays.

Jamie Lovemark $7,800

Lovemark is hidden in a upper-$7,000 range that will get a lot of ownership. That wealth-spreading should allow us savvies to get Lovemark in the 1-5% range. Sign me up! Lovemark ranks 16th in the field in SG:Scoring and 25th in the field in SG:Approach. A class golfer at that price and ownership is extremely attractive. Especially one that bombs the ball and will be plugging wedges all week.

Satoshi Kodaira $7,100

Kodaira won this year at corollary course in Harbour Town Golf Links. Since, he has missed 4 out of 5 cuts. DFS-ers might see the Pete Dye win and play for another. However, I see <5% ownership for a severely underpriced Kodaira. This guy is 36th in the world for a reason. We have already seen that he has big trophy upside at short Pete Dye tracts.
