The Chicago Bulls have taken Boise State forward Chandler Hutchison with the No. 22 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Chandler Hutchison was the pick for the Chicago Bulls at No. 22, and the move was one that has been a month in the making. The Bulls were the team that gave Hutchison a promise at the NBA Draft Combine, and as a result he did not compete in five-on-five. Hutchison joins Wendell Carter Jr. with the Bulls, who they took at No. 7.

Hutchison is an interesting fit in Chicago. He was a strong scorer for the Broncos this year, and his fluidity of movement might be his best NBA skill. He’s a strong driver that can get to the rim, gets open for spot-up shots on the perimeter, and he should be able to play the three and four for the Bulls at the NBA level. He isn’t an elite shooter, and he will have to put on some bulk to really get to the level where he can play as a small-ball four, which is where his skill set probably leans.

The fit of Hutchison in the Bulls frontcourt will be interesting to watch in the next few years. At this point, the Bulls have five strong rotation players who will demand minutes at the four and five, with Hutchison and Carter joining Lauri Markkanen, Bobby Portis, and David Nwaba there. Having the ability to play the three will help Hutchison earn minutes early on, and his ability to handle in space should make him an interesting fit in the Bulls offense. He may need a little bit of time with the Windy City Bulls to develop and allow that frontcourt to make a spot for him. That’s the ultimate question for him as we look forward at his future.
