1. October 4 against Washington Capitals

That was easy, right? Pittsburgh opens their season against the Washington Capitals and this time, it’s not for a banner raising. It will be Washington’s second game of the season since they open up their season against the Boston Bruins. This won’t be a revenge game for the Penguins as they’ll be starting a new season, and it’s definitely going to be must-watch television for everyone.

This rivalry has gotten a lot more heated than it has been in the past over the last couple of years. There haven’t been brawls, but when anyone watches these two teams go at each other, it’s evident that they just don’t like each other. There’s also an element of respect for one another and that starts at the top with Crosby and Alex Ovechkin.

Both have played against each other ever since they’ve come into the league and each time they play, special things happen. You have the dueling hat tricks, Ovechkin’s game-winner in game three of this past year, and so much more. There will likely be more heroics in this game as well.

There’s so much high-end talent on both teams and both power plays just run so smoothly as well. Everyone knows Pittsburgh will be rocking for this game and there’s definitely a high likelihood it’ll be nationally televised as well. There’s no better way to start off the season by playing the defending champs.
