Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite Battle Royale. This week we cover battle pass week 8, shopping cart issues, new game modes and the cryptic season 5 countdown.

There are less than three weeks left in season 4, and speculation is growing about what will happen at the end of this season (Hint: It’s going to involve the giant rocket at the villain lair). The battle pass challenges this week aren’t too difficult, but Fortnite‘s shopping cart problems are.

Let’s start with the battle pass challenges for Week 8.

Battle pass challenges: Week 8

Deal headshot damage to opponents (0/250)

Let’s hope your aim is better than mine. The best way to complete this challenge is to use ranged weapons like a sniper rifle or hunting rifle as they inflict a ton of headshot damage. The heavy shotgun would also do the trick.

If your aim is good, the burst AR or famas is your best friend here as you can land several damaging shots at once. Have no fear though, even if your aim is trash, you’ll get this one if you play enough.

Search chests in Salty Springs (0/7)

Salty Springs is an underrated drop location. There are plenty of chests here. That being said, it’s going to be extremely busy over the next week and the chests are spread out through the houses. Chip away at this one as it may take you several games to complete.

Search 7 chests in a single match (0/7)

This challenge is not as hard as it sounds. There are a few keys to being successful here. Your chances of completing this challenge are much better if you play in solo mode, as you won’t be sharing chests with a duo partner or squad.

Your best bet here is to land as far away from the battle bus route as possible. If the bus starts over Junk Junction, land at Lucky Landing. If it starts over Flush Factory, land at Junk Junction or the new soccer pitch. You want to stay away from the crowd and have time to work your way through at least two locations to loot chests.

Search hungry gnomes (0/7)

Good Lord no! The creepy lawn gnomes are back! If you had battle pass in season 3 you are probably still haunted by the sadistic little giggles you would hear every time you got near one of these mini-Satans.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they are back. Here is a map as to where you can find all of these awful gnomes. Get this one over with ASAP so you don’t have to go through flashbacks of the first time you heard the laugh each time you stumble upon one.

Search between a bear, crater and refrigerator shipment (HARD) (0/1)

Chances are you know where the bear is so you can put the rest of this puzzle together. If you are too lazy to try, though (like me), here is the location of the free battle star:

Suppressed weapon eliminations (HARD) (0/3)

This challenge won’t be difficult but chances are you aren’t used to equipping suppressed weapons unless you have to. The Suppressed pistol and submachine gun are both great weapons to use in close quarters.

Aim for the head when using these weapons and you can knock off that headshot damage challenge while getting your three eliminations.

Eliminate opponents in Pleasant Park (HARD) (0/3)

Self explanatory. Land here and grab a weapon. If you are good at timing your landings, take the chest in the soccer pitch or under the gazebo in the middle of Pleasant Park and open fire on players that are either still in the air or chopping at rooftops. If you are not good at timing your landing, grab a weapon and aim for the player in the middle who is out in the open doing this.

Limited time game modes (LTM)

Final Fight: Teams of 20 – In this game mode, the storm circle stops shrinking after it’s third circle and a timer begins to count down. Once the timer starts, teams can fight, hide, build, continue looting or whatever else they want until the time is up. The team with the most players left wins the game. It’s an interesting concept and can be fun to throw in between serious games.

Future LTM – Score Royale: While this LTM is not available yet, data miners @TwoEpicBuddies on Twitter have discovered that an entirely new game mode is in the works. In Score Royale, gamers receive points for everything: Looting, eliminations, foraging, etc. The winner is likely the first player to reach a set score threshold. This LTM would provide players with many different strategies to win a battle royale.

Update v4.4 patch notes and News

Stink bombs – Stink bombs are the newest grenade added to the game. The stink bombs create a cloud that deals five damage per second for nine seconds to anyone in the clouded area.

Launcher/RPG nerf – In an attempt to avoid rocket launcher finishes at the end of games, Epic has decided to limit the amount of ammo you can carry for both launchers (rocket and grenade) to a total of 12. While most think this is great for the rocket launcher, it is a huge crutch to the growing popularity of the grenade launcher.

Don’t be surprised if the grenade launcher ammo increases in the near future as the grenade launcher can now only carry two clips. The rest of the patch notes can be found here.

Shopping Carts – The shopping cart saga continues. The carts were previously taken out of the game for bug fixes before being added back in with the same or new bugs in tact. Rinse and repeat two more times and here we are without shopping carts once again.

This tweet came only two hours after the carts were brought back in. While the shopping carts are not a staple in normal play, they are extremely fun to mess around with and can be useful to escape the storm.

THEORIES – It’s that time in the season where we start speculating heavily about what is going to happen, what parts of the map are going to change and what season 5 will bring. The newest updates left us with some spooky television set messages and holograms that are hinting at a rocket launch from the enemy base above Snobby Shores.

There are a battle-bus load of theories being tossed around on the internet right now as to what will happen before season 5, and they are likely to ramp up in the coming weeks. Much like it did last season, the game will be changing ever so slightly with each update so pay attention to all of the details while you do your theorizing.

Elimination of the week

This week’s EOTW involves some next-level trickery. Don’t underestimate the value of using the right emotes at the right times. It’s also a metaphor for life with a significant other (Credit: Reddit u/PsychoHoshi).
