1. Arizona Coyotes @ Dallas

Date: October 4

Time: 8:30 p.m., E.T.

Without any actual context, this one wouldn’t make sense. We aren’t being mean, but nobody looks forward to games against Arizona. Not even Coyotes fans look forward to Coyotes games.

But this is a special occasion, friends. This is the Dallas Stars home opener, and we couldn’t be more excited. When October finally rolls its pretty self around, we will have gone four-plus months without any actual game action to sustain our appetite. What better way to get a mind back in gear than with a home opening contest?

Hopefully one day the NHL and all its incredible fans will take Opening Night just as seriously as Major League Baseball takes Opening Day. Or as seriously as when the NFL kicks off each new season. Why? Because this is the greatest sport on earth. Get up and get excited (in a few months).

Unfortunately for the Coyotes, there hasn’t been much to get hyped about in recent years (Or any year, for that matter). They’re certainly hoping for changes to that script, as they traded young one Max Domi to the Montreal Canadiens for Alex Galchenyuk. Arizona also recently resigned defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson to a massive deal, so it’s hoping things take a turn for the better in 2018-19. Dallas, of course, will be hoping that doesn’t start in October.

The Stars, as you might remember, opened the season at home last year against the Vegas Golden Knights. That didn’t turn out so well, though hindsight is always crystal clear. Here’s to the new campaign being a bit more kind.
