St. Louis Blues – D

First Round Pick: Dominik Bokk (RW) (25)

The Blues traded up to make this selection. They only gave up a third round pick, so I can’t be too mad at them given the guy they got. Dominik Bokk is a high-end goalscorer who is going to give the Central Division nightmares much the same way Vladimir Tarasenko gives the Central Division nightmares. His defense still needs work and he’s at least a season away from being in the NHL. You can catch him on YouTube and Twitter, terrorizing Swedish defenders next season. Great value pick by St. Louis.

Other Notable Picks: Scott Perunovich (D) (45)

While I love their selection of Bokk in the first round, the rest of their draft didn’t do much for me. Scott Perunovich was ranked 102nd among North American skaters by Central Scouting. It was the third yer he was draft eligible, going unselected in 2016 and 2017. I’m sure he’s improved since then. Blues fans better hope that’s the case because St. Louis spent their second-round pick on a guy who probably would have been there in the fifth round. It’s never a good sign when a guy is trying to get drafted for a third time and will be 20-years-old by the time the season starts. He’s going to need a lot of work in the next couple of years if he hopes to crack the St. Louis lineup.

St. Louis went off the board the rest of Day 2. They also failed to grab a center, which feels like a mistake given how center happy teams were on Friday and Saturday.

A good first round pick can’t save St. Louis from a less than average grade.
