Fantasy Baseball Week 14 Top Two-Start Pitchers

This article looks at some two-start pitchers for the upcoming week that you should consider for your Fantasy Baseball team.

Cole Hamels– Texas Rangers

Starts: vs. San Diego, vs. Chicago White Sox

In what has been a extremely underwhelming year for the Rangers, Cole Hamels seems to be one of their few bright spots. As of now, he has a 4-6 record with a 3.41 ERA, and has been the subject of trade talk throughout the season, being that the Rangers are in rebuild mode. In regards to this week, Hamels is facing two very strikeout-prone teams in the Padres and the White Sox. The only concern is that both games are at Globe Life Park, which is known to be a hitter’s paradise. However, both the Padres and White Sox are near the bottom of the league in runs scored on the road, so he shouldn’t have too much trouble with either lineup. Hamels has also been pitching well of late, posting a 2.89 ERA in his last seven starts.

Tyler Skaggs– Los Angeles Angels

Starts: at Kansas City, at Baltimore

With injuries plaguing the Los Angeles Angels rotation, Tyler Skaggs has emerged as an essential part of this team. Skaggs also dealt with an injury last week, as he was scratched due to a hamstring issue. However, he should be good to go for tomorrow, according to MLB.com’s Maria Guardado:

Skaggs has pitched to the tune of a 2.81 ERA this year, and like Hamels, is facing two rebuilding teams in the Royals and the Orioles. Another positive note for Skaggs is that he has been great on the road, putting up a 5-1 record with a 2.27 ERA in eight starts. He’s also facing the two lowest-scoring teams in the league, so you can start him with confidence this week.

Zack Godley– Arizona Diamondbacks

Starts: at Miami, vs. San Francisco

Zack Godley definitely hasn’t had the season the Diamondbacks would have hoped. However, he is someone to consider for this week based on his opponents. Miami is next-to-last in runs scored at home, and the Giants are near the bottom of the league in runs scored on the road. Also, the Giants are overall considerably worse on the road than they are at home. Besides the favorable matchups, Godley has pitched well as of late, only allowing two earned runs in each of his last three starts, including a start at Coors Field.

Mike Clevinger– Cleveland Indians

Starts: at St. Louis, at Oakland

Clevinger’s last two starts were fantastic, as he won both and only allowed two earned runs overall. Granted, they were both against the White Sox. However, he still looked dominant, and has now lowered his season ERA to 3.00 through 15 starts. St. Louis has had a pretty underwhelming offensive season, and are in the bottom half of the league in runs scored in June and runs scored overall at home. Oakland is near the bottom of the league in runs scored, batting average, and OBP at home. However, the Oakland Coliseum seems to plague visiting teams as well, so those statistics are not too surprising. Clevinger has also been great on the road, posting a 3-1 record with a 2.27 ERA.
