Australia face Peru in World Cup Group C play in Russia with their duel in Sochi on June 26. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The 2018 World Cup did not go at all to plan for Peru. Entering the tournament on a long unbeaten run that spanned over a year, the South American side hoped to make a deep run in its first World cup since 1982. Instead, Peru was eliminated from the knockout stage even before their final Group C match against Australia.
Peru lost to Denmark and then France, both by 1-0 scores. The Peruvians struggled to generate scoring chances in dangerous areas, even after inserting captain and all-time leading scorer Pedro Guerrero into the lineup.
The South Americans have one more shot at redemption this year when they square off against Australia. After losing all three matches at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Australia pulled off a 1-1 draw against Denmark in its second Group C match.
As far as generating scoring chances, Australia has been more reliable than the Peruvians so far in the tournament. The Socceroos have benefitted from strong play by central midfielder Aaron Mooy, who scored their tying goal against the Danes.
Can Peru break out of its funk and finally put together a complete performance at this year’s World Cup? Or will Australia break through to add a win to the draw it has already secured? Don’t miss the action when these two squads from either side of the Pacific square off in Sochi on

Peru will throw all caution to the wind in hopes that they don’t leave Russia completely empty-handed from its first World Cup trip in 36 years. Australia already has one point, so they have less pressure to secure a positive result.
That could actually make Australia more comfortable and confident in Sochi than their opponent. Peru needs the result more, though neither side has anything to lose when they meet up to complete their time at the World Cup.
Peru will go on the attack early, but the Socceroos will score first on the counter as their opponents push too many numbers forward. The South Americans will eventually equalize, but it will end with Peru and Australia deadlocked.
