DraftKings PGA: Quicken Loans National Scrubs

Welcome to the Quicken Loans National, home of possibly the weakest field of any DraftKings PGA tour event this year. Aside from Tiger and Rickie, this field is hot garbage. Only 4 players rank within the top 30 OGWR (Fowler. Molinari, Leishman, Aphibarnrat), and 8 within the top 50 (Stanley, Woodland, Kim, Hadwin). DraftKings understands this, and the pricing definitely reflects this imbalance. While traditional balanced lineups are often a sound strategy, “hard” pricing may cause DKers to opt for stars and scrubs lineups this week. Fantasy gurus’ Pat Mayo and Michael Leone are major proponents of a top heavy lineup this week.

A stars and scrubs approach requires multiple golfers below the 7K threshold that most DKers are too pretentious to cross. For this week, I say throw that shame my way. I have 3 golfers <$7K in my core, with a couple of golfers looking at ownership approaching 10-20 times the field. This may be crazy, but 70+ out of 120 golfers will make the cut. Plus, at a course this difficult, the scores will be low anyway.

Here are 4 of my favorite <$7000 plays this week. Pair them with guys from my other articles this week (Picks & Analysis, Pivots) to create the perfect stars and scrubs lineup.

The Best of the Worst

JJ Henry $6,400

Henry should not be the cheapest golfer in this field. Not that he is a good golfer, but he is definitely not the weakest guy in this tournament. Henry is the 20th best ball striker in this field, he made the cut at the Travelers, and he made the cut at this event last year.

Nicholas Lindheim $6,600

5 of 7 made cuts with a T14 at Houston. Does that sound like a near minimum priced golfer? Hell no, half this field has not even made 5 cuts the whole season. Lindheim missed the cut by 1 stroke at the Travelers, and he ranks 2nd in the field in Par 4 Birdie or Better gained this season. Rack up those birdie stats young fella.

Tyler Duncan $6,700

Would you believe me if I told you that a golfer <$7K is looking to make his 7th consecutive cut this week? Its true. Tyler Duncan is churning out paychecks, and now looks for his 2nd top 5 finish this season. Duncan is top 30 in the field in strokes gained approach, off-the-tee, and tee-to-green.

Robert Garrigus $6,700

Garrigus’s last 4 tournaments: T21, MC, T18, MC… Looks like he is due for a good finish this week! Garrigus ranks 5th in the field in approach gained and pops in strokes gained tee-to-green and birdie or better.
