15. Athletics

The A’s are continuing to hang around, not quite ready yet to throw in the towel on their season. Going 7-3 over their last 10 games has them back above .500 and just 7 games back in the Wild Card race. Maybe they could still make it happen, unless somebody makes an offer for Jed Lowrie that they just cannot refuse.

14. Nationals (-2)

The Nationals have lost 8 of their last 12, losing games to teams they need to beat. The series they just lost the Phillies has hurt their Wild Card chase. This season of disappointment for the Nationals continued last week, but they aren’t out of the playoff race yet. If they can turn it around, they still have a chance to make a deep playoff run.

13. Cardinals (-3)

Last week was tough for the Cardinals, but they mostly fall because of other team’s success. They dropped a series to the Phillies then split a series with the Brewers. However, they’ve won 3 in a row and may be able to ride that momentum and a new addition to the playoffs.

12. Angels (+1)

The Angels have bee okay over the last week. They split series with the Diamondbacks and Blue Jays, but unlike the Cardinals, are riding a 3 game losing streak. It seems that their offense (barring Mike Trout as usual) has hit a bit of a cold spell, so they’ve become reliant on their pitching. When the offense gets going again, they should be back to winning games.

11. Phillies (+3)

The Phillies are hot. They’ve won their last 4 series and are now just a half game back in the Wild Card standings. As long as they can continue this, they will have a legitimate chance at getting a Wild Card spot. From there, Aaron Nola can pitch the to the divisional round. Anyways, without getting ahead of ourselves, the Phillies are playing well right now, showing us what they can be.
