3. Will Sammy Watkins work out?

The Chiefs made a concerted effort to clear cap space, and then spend that money on players they knew would have an immediate impact on their team. One of those acquisitions was wide receiver Sammy Watkins.

Adding a guy like Watkins to an offense that already has the fastest man in the NFL, and possibly the best tight end in the NFL will cause headaches for defenses. The only question is, will this actually work out?

The easy answer is yes because of Watkins’ natural talent. The realistic answer is we don’t know. If you’re being honest with yourself, Watkins has never actually had a relationship with a quarterback that was just natural. A Matt Ryan to Julio Jones-type relationship where they just know what the other is thinking at all times.

For those that say it’s because he’s never healthy, well you’d be wrong there. Watkins has had only one year where he missed significant time, that was in 2016. He’s played at least 13 games in every other season of career, and this is only his fifth year in the league.

Watkins has a natural talent that makes him one of the best receivers in the league. He just needs a quarterback to build a solid relationship with, and maybe Patrick Mahomes can be the guy he’s been looking for.
