3. Charlotte Hornets

One of Ellington’s best seasons was in 2014-15 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He started half the games in which he played. He averaged double digits in scoring.

Why Charlotte then and not Los Angeles?

Well, Mitch Kupchak, who was once with the Lakers, is now the general manager in Charlotte. Plus, Kupchak is a Tar Heel working for a Tar Heel in Michael Jordan. Maybe the argyle isn’t as tightly knit as it once was, but the possibility of Ellington isn’t impossible to fathom.

Moreover, Kemba Walker only has one more year left on his contract and with Dwight Howard already on the move to Brooklyn maybe Kemba’s days in town are also numbered. Ellington could play off-the-ball in a lineup with Kemba, or he could help carry the scoring burden in Kemba’s absence. Of course, if such a scenario were to come into existence, then most likely the season is already in the tank and Ellington’s days could be numbered as well.
