Do the Yankees have the best infield in baseball?
Miguel Andujar
Brandon Drury began the year as the Yankees’ starting third baseman but that seems like a long time ago now. Like Torres, Andujar has grabbed his spot in the starting lineup and has shown zero signs of giving it up.
Strangely, Andujar hasn’t received the same amount of media attention that is showered on Torres. That’s a bit strange since he’s hitting an impressive .280 with 11 home runs on the year. That isn’t quite as good as Torres’ numbers, but it’s not far off.
Where Andujar has been better than Torres is in the field. He’s played an excellent third base. He’s flashed above-average hands at the hot corner and his arm is better than advertised. Andujar has a chance to develop into one of the better defensive third baseman in baseball.
Next: Grading the Yankees rotation: Severino dominates, but what about the rest?
Even if Andujar doesn’t improve at all, he’s going to be a mainstay in the Yankees lineup for years to come. Of course, at just 23 years of age it’s very likely he’s going to get a lot better over the next few years. If that sort of career progression occurs, pencil Andujar in as a perennial All-Star.
