Russell Wilson’s fantasy football value is as high or higher than ever. So why does it make sense to sell stock in dynasty leagues?

Buy low, sell high. It’s the prevailing theme behind basic economics, stocks, and dynasty football players. Russell Wilson’s fantasy stock is higher than it has ever been right now, and most likely, ever will be. This is the perfect time to sell.

More from Fantasy

Pete Carroll is holding Russell Wilson back

Last season, Russell Wilson led the NFL in touchdown passes. He was atop the fantasy quarterback points leaderboard in every league scoring system I’ve seen. Seattle had zero running game to speak of outside of Wilson. Meanwhile, he racked up nearly 4,000 passing yards behind one of the worst offensive lines in football. And, oh yeah. He led the Seahawks in rushing with 586 yards on the ground. Wilson WAS the entire Seattle offense.

This year is different. Although not well publicized, the offensive line is improved from last season. That, and a complete offensive coaching overhaul, will bring more balance to Seattle’s offense this year. Normally, that would be something that’s going to benefit a quarterback from a fantasy standpoint. Balanced offense equals less interceptions, and more yards as defenses are kept on their heels, respecting the running game.

But in this case, Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll is going TOO far. Carroll brought in Brian Schottenheimer to run the offense in a desire to return the team to its 2013 Super Bowl winning formula. Schottenheimer, who captained a New York Jets team to the most rushing attempts in a season, is expected to overhaul the offense and turn Seattle into a run-first attack.

It’s a formula that has proven successful for winning, but is a killer to Wilson’s fantasy value. As a player that finished last season the number one fantasy quarterback, and goes into this season ranked anywhere from 3-5, he’s going to have a hard time living up to that value.

Lack of weapons will cost Wilson valuable fantasy points

Gone is Wilson’s number one red zone target Jimmy Graham, who caught ten touchdowns last year. He’s been replaced by blocking proficient tight ends Ed Dickson and Will Dissly.

Also gone is the team’s 2nd most productive receiver, Paul Richardson, lost to the Redskins in free agency. The Seahawks will look to Tyler Lockett, second year receiver Amara Darboh, and Jaron Brown to try and pick up the slack. Not exactly a cluster of top offensive weapons surrounding Wilson to generate the passing game.

If you’re in a dynasty league that highly values quarterbacks, especially six-point touchdown leagues, maximize Wilson’s value now, get great return, and draft one of the rookies coming out this year. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are two QBs who should jump in value sooner than later.
