NBA Free Agency 2018: 5 best point guards available
3. Rajon Rondo
Is there an option to sign Rondo and wait to play him until the playoffs? Seriously, playoff Rondo is legit. The Bulls won their first two games against the Celtics in 2017 and last year he lead a series win against the Blazers. His 12.2 assists per game in the playoffs last year were just phenomenal.
Unfortunately, that is unrealistic, but he is still a great facilitator all season long. Rondo has always been known for his passing and he demonstrated it last year. Once DeMarcus Cousins went down with an Achilles injury, the Pelicans increased their pace, and unleashed Rondo. Before the injury, Rondo was averaging 7.3 assists per game, but once the pace increased he got to 9.2 assists per game.
He had a super 42.2 assist percentage last season. He is fine with having the ball in his hands and setting his teammates up. Rondo doesn’t have to score in order to be successful, but he has still noticed the importance of shooting. After shooting 20.7% from three his rookie year, he shot an acceptable 33.3% last year. Still, nearly 70% of his shots are two pointers, as he picks and chooses his spots to score.
Rondo is true floor general. He has the ability on the floor to get stay in control on offense. It is an invaluable trait that many teams will be looking for.
