2. Oklahoma City Thunder

At the beginning of the season, it seemed highly unlikely George would spend more than a season in the blue and orange of Oklahoma City. He informed the Thunder’s front office he would not opt in and become an unrestricted free agent, but this doesn’t mean he won’t return to Oklahoma City. In fact, the Thunder are one of the two teams many believe George will play for next season. Whether his reason for not opting in was for more money or to dip his toe in free agency, he’s certainly considering the Thunder after an impressive season-long recruitment pitch.

Along with a complicated and appealing pitch to George is the concept of finishing what he started. George is wildly competitive and the expectations placed on the Thunder’s big three last season were far greater than what they achieved. Carmelo Anthony’s disappointing performance and Andre Roberson’s injury were a few things factoring in to the Thunder being eliminated in the first round. Therefore, why would George not come back to start what he finished? With a few bench additions, Oklahoma City can make themselves a contender once again if they hang on to George.

His tight-knit relationship with Russell Westbrook could eventually convince him to stay. However, it doesn’t seem the Thunder are interested in making any big moved either. Therefore, the 28-year-old may be put off by the idea of a project and look to go somewhere where he can contend right away. He may wait to see what other notable free agents do before making his decision, but don’t rule Oklahoma City out by any means.
