Minnesota: Tom Lehman

Some of the players that are featured on this list aren’t what you would call all-time greats in the sport of golf. However, that’s not always what it takes to be considered a great in terms of states that these players are from. Sometimes you can simply put together a solid overall career in which you accomplished a great deal and call it a day. That’s the case when it comes to Minnesota’s Tom Lehman.

Lehman actually only registered five wins on the PGA Tour throughout his career. While he also won twice on the European Tour and has since won 10 times on the Champions Tour, that’s not an overwhelming amount of success as it pertains to wins. Yet, when it comes to quality showings and overall quality play, it’s hard not to respect what he was able to put together for a career.

His best season, in which he won PGA Player of the Year, was undoubtedly the 1996 run for Lehman. He tied for second at the U.S. Open that year, but was just getting started. When the tour took him across the pond, Lehman was able to capture the win at The Open Championship. While that would be his only major victory of his career, he went on to win the Tour Championship later in that year.

Lehman at his best was certainly a force on the golf course. And while he may not have a sustained run of that type of success, his streak and overall solid career give him the nod from his home state.
