Los Angeles Chargers: Phil Mickelson

During his time on the PGA Tour, Phil Mickelson has become one of the most loved golfers in the history of the  game. A five-time Major winner, Mickelson is considered one of the best golfers of all time, and his short game is the stuff of legend.

Mickelson grew up in San Diego, and still lives in the area, so it is understandable that he would become a big time San Diego Chargers fan. During the team’s time in San Diego, Mickelson was a fixture at games, and when the time came for them to move, he actually had a pretty understanding take on why the team was doing it.

Not only would Mickelson attend games because he loves the team, but he also put on one of the coolest contests inside Qualcomm Stadium back in 2012. During a Monday Night Football matchup between the Chargers and the Denver Broncos, Mickelson and his KPMG Chip 4 Charity sponsor had a 100-yard wedge shot to a makeshift green for a chance at $1 million. Mickelson missed, but earned the charity $50,000.

The 48-year-old is still a Chargers fan, even though the team has left his beloved city. Luckily for him, the Bolts are actually building back up a nice team, and many believe they will be the Kings of the AFC West this fall.

The current PGA Tour is loaded with young talent, but Mickelson is still able to hold his own against some of the best players the game has to offer at this present time. Los Angeles is under two hours from San Diego, and you can bet if the Chargers do live up to the expectations this season, Lefty is going to be right there at the playoff games.
