Minnesota Timberwolves offer Jimmy Butler the max
By Tre LyDay
The Minnesota Timberwolves finally made the playoffs last season thanks in part to Jimmy Butler. Now the Wolves are offering the max, but should he take it?
The Minnesota Timberwolves made the playoffs for the first time since 2004, and look to make it back to the playoffs next season. Jimmy Bulter will be fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered late last season, and Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns will be a year older.
Unfortunately, Butler is in the final year of his deal and could be looking to cash out next summer after seeing the deals guys got this summer.
Well, the Timberwolves don’t plan on waiting for next summer to come around and plan on offering him a max extension this summer.
A max extension for him would be four-years and $110 million. Not a bad payday for him. Butler is not eligible to sing any kind of extension until July 9, but the Wolves are trying to get out in front of his free agency.
The only question is should Butler take the max?
He’s in a free agent class with Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker and possibly Kevin Durant. Those are some pretty good ball players that he might want to play with.
Plus, what is the Wolves ceiling? First round exit? Second round exit? In a Western Conference with the Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets is the Finals a realistic thing for the Wolves? Probably not.

If Butler were to decline the Wolves max extension offer, and see how free agency works out he could not only get more money, but also pick who he wants to play with. Let’s be honest if LeBron James signs with the Lakers this offseason I’m sure other people would be inclined to join him in 2019.
Or maybe Butler would rather join the Knicks. Who knows, but he might want to hold off on taking that extension.
