DFS GOLF: The Greenbrier Tribute – OB’s FanDuel Lineup
A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier
Welcome to another edition of DFS Golf’s finest, OB’s Lineup. This is a weekly DFS Golf column that dives into the current PGA Tour week’s picks, plays, and advice. OB’s Lineup is specifically built on FanDuel, but the advice carries over all daily fantasy platforms. This week, we look into the “Military Tribute at the Greenbrier” with hopes to collect another week’s earning.
"Before diving into the links, make sure to follow me on twitter for even more fantasy golf advice! @MJOBrien31. Last weekend I wasn’t able to access a computer and provided my lineup on Twitter and we CASHED. I am also doing a free David Johnson jersey giveaway for any of you football fans! Check my pinned tweet while you’re on my profile!"
Course Information
Greenbrier is best described as simple. The term should be used lightly. In comparison to other tournament-ready courses, Greenbrier is a walk in the park. The wide fairways should be favorable for golfers who quite often do not worry about placement, and bomb the ball as far as possible in any direction. While building your lineups, take this factor into account. We should be targeting players who can work well on the green and can gain yardage off the tee.
While last year’s tournament was cancelled due to extremely poor conditions, rumor has it this year the course looks phenomenal! Expect greens to run fast.
Stats to look at here? Try SG: Tee to Green and SG: Putting. These statistics reflect the work that golfers have cut out for them this weekend. Expect a truck-load of birdies and a very low score threshold come Friday night when the cut is made.
DFS GOLF: OB’s Lineup
This weekend’s slate is rather dull. I wouldn’t blame anyone for passing up on this week and saving their money for the next major, but that leaves us DFS Golf diehards an opportunity to steal a little bit more capital from fanatics who didn’t take the opportunity. I feel this slate is one of the more easy reads due to the lack of talent within the top-tier of golfers. So, with that being said, here is my lineup this week.
Bubba Watson (FD $11,800)
I’m never typically bullish on someone who just won their last tournament appearance but Watson fits the course preview perfectly, being able to crush the ball and not worry about his fit on the fairway is going to be very beneficial to him. That theory partnered with the fact that Bubba is 7th in driving distance should prove that Bubba is worth your imaginary cash this weekend. Bubba also has quite the hot-hand, winning the Travelers Championship two weeks ago. His two (-7) rounds propelled him to a more that impressive win amongst other elite golfers. Bubba is the best buy at the top of this slate.
Webb Simpson (FD $11,500)
Simpson is coming off quite a terrible performance at the Travelers. While this statement has quite the negative connotation, the intent is positive. It’s time for regression back to the mean! To explain further, this means that Simpson is due for a bounce-back and is hungry for a tournament win. With a similar performance as his top ten finish at the US Open, Simpson could prove his worth this weekend at The Greenbrier. The course fits his capabilities and he actually has a nice resume of performing well here. This includes his T3 finish here in 2014. Bet on Simpson playing well this weekend.
Keegan Bradley (FD $9,800)
Keegan Bradley is similar to Bubba in the sense that he hits the ball well and can putt just good enough to play four very good rounds of golf this weekend. The poor man’s Bubba has played well at smaller tournaments this year and has been in all of my lineups when the slate is small. He is on the verge of finding a win this year, so why not at Greenbrier? The Fourth of July Celebration should continue throughout the weekend as Keegan is T12 in tee-to-green. Buy the value that is Keegan Bradley.
DFS GOLF: OB’s Lineup
Austin Cook (FD $9,100)
To be completely honest, I’m buying Cook because I love rooting for the guy. This is “fantasy” golf isn’t it? Why not spend on guys you want to see succeed? Anyways, Cook was successful at the St. Jude Classic and I expect a similar performance at The Greenbrier. Cook posts a .386 average shots gained putting, which is relatively decent and he makes his cuts enough to have a floor that I’m willing to buy. This slot is flexible for you to plug-in who you want at this price range. I like Cook.

Vaughn Taylor (FD $8,900)
After a week off at the Quicken Loans National, Vaughn should be well rested and practiced for this tournament. He was hot previously making 4 straight cuts and I’m playing this veteran as a high-floor buy low candidate this weekend. He is a true Pro and should perform well at this course. I always try to fit either Taylor or Chez Reavie into my lineups due to the fact that they are always underrated vets that get the job done.
CT Pan (FD $8,700)
How could I pass up on Pan? He has been in so many of my lineups as of late because of how well he has performed. Three out of his last four outings have been T20 or better finishes. FanDuel continues to disrespect the young golfer and I expect him to actually give this tournament a good run for its money. If you take anything away from this column, BUY PAN. I’ve been an advocate for the past 3 weeks and he has returned value every single time.
