Giannis Antetokounmpo will be NBA 2K19’s Coverboy
NBA 2K officially announces Bucks’ forward Giannis Antetokounmpo as 2019 cover athlete.
2018 was a big year for Giannis Antetokounmpo. He lead the Bucks with 26.9 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game in route to a 44-38 overall record. The Greek Freak then almost led Milwaukee to a series win against the No. 1 seeded Boston Celtics before losing in Game 7 of the first round matchup.
What the 6-foot-11 forward from Greece has been able to do on the floor in his time in the NBA is remarkable and his fame lately has been growing exponentially because of it. Near the end of the 2017-18 season, Giannis and Nike announced that the superstar was being rewarded with his own signature shoe, expected to be called the Greek Freaks. The sneakers are expected to drop sometime this upcoming season.
However, Giannis didn’t stop there. He also got an insane amount of attention on Twitter when he decided to go around the United States and try some food classics he had never had before. Antetokounmpo has become somewhat of a peoples champ, as he has stayed humble and human despite signing a $100 million contract last offseason. His personality and stardom are adored by fans league-wide, which is why NBA 2K, the vastly popular NBA video game, has announced him as the athlete to grace this year’s standard edition cover.
In doing so, Giannis has become the first international player to ever be on the cover of the game, which has had some pretty good “alumni”, if thats what you want to call it — Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and LeBron James to name just a few. In fact, Antetokounmpo shares the honor with LeBron, who will be on the premium edition in 2019.

Giannis has gone from a rookie with a long name to one of the most recognized personas in the league and it’s not going to stop, NBA 2K19 is just the beginning.
