With just eight games in the DraftKings MLB night slate, you can save some money on pitching while stacking up the star hitters.

The day after the 4th of July leaves us with just eight games on today’s DraftKings MLB slate. All of which are taking place at 7 PM or later. There are a couple of smaller slates but they are either Pick’Ems or Turbo games. If you want to play the main slate, there is just one option.

Today’s game feature MIA/WAS, TEX/DET, CWS/HOU, ATL/MIL, BAL/MIN, SD/ARI, LAA/SEA, STL/SF. Some of the matchups, on paper, don’t look like there will be a lot of scoring so if you want to stack hitters, you may want to look at the Seattle/Los Angeles and Atlanta/Milwaukee games.

If you are looking to save on pitching in order to have some of the more expensive hitters in your lineup, there are a couple of options for you. However, these cheap pitchers come with a bit of a risk. They may not record a lot of strikeouts or give up one too many hits but have the ability to pick up a win.

All three of these pitchers cost less than $8,000. Granted, there are three pitchers that are more expensive than that, so finding cheap pitchers in this slate of games isn’t hard.

Honorable mention: Aaron Slegers ($5,600), Luke Weaver ($7,900)

Jeremy Hellickson, $7,700

Hellickson hasn’t been a bad pitcher at all this season. He hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a single start. The downside is that he hasn’t pitched more than 6.2 innings. So, if you want to rack up points for innings, Hellickson isn’t the pitcher to use.

Though, Hellickson has the Washington Nationals offense behind him. Even with their recent struggles, the offense can go off at any moment.

If you are banking on the extra four points for the win, Hellickson has a good shot for that. He also pitches against the Miami Marlins, a team hitting just as bad.

Andrew Cashner, $4,600

The cheapest pitcher on the slate, Cashner and the Baltimore Orioles face the Minnesota Twins. He’s also been a good pitcher since June 1. While Cashner hasn’t recorded a win in that span, he’s given up three or fewer earned runs in every start since.

The Orioles offense haven’t hit well over the last month. They finished June with a .216 batting average. However, the Twins finished with a .231 average. If Cashner can keep the ball on the ground, he’ll have a successful outing.

Pablo Lopez, $7,000

Lopez is the dark horse in these slate of games. He has a favorable matchup against the Nationals. Yes, I said the offense can go off at any time but we haven’t seen it recently. Lopez earned 19.3 points in his first start against the New York Mets.

Lopez did allow two home runs in that start so he’s prone to the long ball. Though, he induced 10 ground balls in the start.

The downside is that his offense may not provide him enough support to earn the win. His points will come from his innings pitched and strikeouts.

Like I said earlier, these three starting pitchers come with some risks and negative aspects to their game. But with the team they are facing, some of those negatives aren’t as bad. These pitchers will give you enough points to support your offense.

If you don’t want to spend on Justin Verlander or Johnny Cueto, these are the pitchers you want.
