Tony Parker leaves San Antonio and nothing is right in the world

Tony Parker signs with the Charlotte Hornets because no one knows what’s going on in the NBA anymore.

The NBA offseason is officially broken. If you thought LeBron James going to Los Angeles or DeMarcus Cousins taking $5 million would be the biggest story of the offseason, you were wrong. Tony Parker is leaving the San Antonio Spurs.

Hornets point forward Nicolas Batum scooped everyone by reporting it first.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed Parker would be signing a two-year deal worth $10 million with Charlotte.

Parker averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 assists in 55 games last season. Both marked career-lows for the veteran. He has lost a step due to age and injuries. The 35-year-old was moved to the bench in favor of Dejounte Murray in the middle of the season. He’s slowed due to age and injuries, but no one saw him leaving the only organization and coach he’s ever played for.

The point guard made some waves during the season, calling out Kawhi Leonard for how he was handling his quadriceps injury. Maybe with Parker off the team, Leonard will feel more comfortable returning to the locker room.

As for Parker, he’ll head to Charlotte and serve as Kemba Walker’s backup. Parker has a French connection with the aforementioned Batum. The two were teammates on the 2012 French Olympic team and have played together in EuroBasketball tournaments.

Michael Carter-Williams was the backup in Charlotte last season. He has since moved on to the Houston Rockets.

Seeing Parker in a different jersey for the first time in 17-year career will certainly be odd. Pick-and-pops with Frank Kaminsky will just be sad after years of watching him perfect the art with Tim Duncan or LaMarcus Aldridge. At least the BBQ is better in Carolina.
