2. Milwaukee Brewers

It has to be an all-in year for the Brewers, who made big moves over the winter to add Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich. Milwaukee continues to lead the NL Central with the best record in the Senior Circuit. The Brewers continue to prove that last season’s winning record was no fluke.

In order to avoid the same type of collapse that allowed the Cubs to storm back and win the division comfortably last year, though, the Brewers will need to make an impact move at the trade deadline. With a stacked farm system and plenty of roster flexibility, Milwaukee will definitely make a move to significantly upgrade their roster.

The two most logical trade targets for the Brewers are Manny Machado and Jacob deGrom (don’t buy into the New York Mets shopping Noah Syndergaard. He isn’t going anywhere.) and they will get one of them. Starting pitcher and shortstop are the only weak spots on a roster that has been smartly constructed from top to bottom.

The Brewers had expected shortstop Orlando Arcia to take the next step this year, but he has fallen off a cliff at the plate this year. The 23-year-old was sent to the minors after hitting .197/.231/.251 in 66 games. Milwaukee has a deep farm system, which gives them an advantage over the Cubs and Cardinals at the deadline this year. One smart trade will be enough to put the Brewers over the top.
