MLB DRAFT DFS Picks (DRAFT.com): Wednesday, July 11th

Welcome to today’s edition of MLB DRAFT DFS Picks from FantasyCPR. The DRAFT app can be downloaded to your mobile device through your app store, or you can access their desktop site here.
I play quite a bit on DRAFT, and have always been a big fan of the snake draft format. On DRAFT, you roster one starting pitcher, two infielders, and two outfielders. They offer head-to-head, 3-man, 6-man and 10-man drafts that start upon filling. Also, they have a tournament format, where one contest will span a few days. The further you advance, the more you win. I play mostly the six-man contests for cash games, which payout to the top two spots.
If you are finding this article for the first time, my goal here will be to give you my strategy for drafting today on DRAFT, followed by my top 30 overall rankings. Strategy of course changes day by day, depending on what type of slate we are working with. I always start with my pitcher, as everything else revolves around that. After having completed my rankings for today and done a few six-man drafts, here is how I am attacking this slate.
MLB DRAFT DFS Picks – Slate Overview:
There are four slates of action on DRAFT today, but today we will focus on the main 6:05 PM CST start featuring 11 games. The full 15 game slate will kick off at 11:10 AM, so instead of including the afternoon games, I hoping the interest of this article won’t be gone after that. Other than some heat and humidity, the weather looks like it will cooperate once again with no rain in sight.
We have a ton of top arms in action tonight, therefore, we have the makings of a day it looks good to wait on pitching. Coors Field looks juicy tomorrow, with Shelby Miller on the hill for Arizona and German Marquez on the hill. It will be interesting to see how the picks fall today, as the Yankees and Red Sox find themselves in great spots once again as well. It’s deep everywhere today, as there are exactly six quality pitchers. We have two studs and first round picks in Jacob deGrom and Chris Sale, and we also have Brewers rookie sensation and MLB DRAFT DFS Picks favorite Freddy Peralta. Lance McCullers Jr., and Carlos Carrasco also are in favorable spots pitching at home.
MLB DRAFT DFS Picks – Top Pitching Targets
Instead of giving you some basic vanilla strategy, like repeating the fact that the Infield position is usually deep throughout, and the Outfield position drops off pretty dramatically usually in terms of “lock” type plays, I will opt to point out the guys I am actually targeting and drafting. I think this will be more helpful in terms of understanding why I have certain players ranked where they are. Similar to the rankings, followed by each target will be their overall ranking of 30 in parenthesis.
Chris Sale – Boston Red Sox – (1)
Once again, Sale is on a slate with deGrom, as the two continue to be arguably the top arms in baseball. At first look, I kind of favored deGrom today, but the Vegas data won’t let me allow that. Texas is bad and strikes out a ton. Sale comes into this game with double-digit K’s in five of the last six, and he had nine in the one he missed. He has amassed an incredible 176 strikeouts already this year and we are not even to the All-Star break yet. There is so much depth and places to target on the hitting side, Sale is my number one overall today, and deGrom who should also rack up some K’s against the Phillies, comes in at a close second.
Freddy Peralta – Milwaukee Brewers – (18)
Well I have a feeling Sale and deGrom will fall to me in the first round no matter where I pick today, as all eyes are on Coors Field. In the event they do not, I will once again turn my attention to Peralta. He was effective again in his last start against the Braves, striking out six in six innings, and going for 15 DP. The Brewers will be finishing up a series in Miami, looking to win two out of three. The bats have been coming alive since the return of Lorenzo Cain, so the run support should be there for Peralta to pick up a win against a bad Marlins lineup. Sporting a 4-1 record with a 2.14 ERA in six starts, I am targeting him in the third round.
Luke Weaver – St. Louis Cardinals – (30)
It’s been a rough year for Weaver, as he fallen well short of the expectations some experts had for him. While his numbers on the season aren’t anything to write home about, he has been pretty good as of late, and especially better on the road. Weaver struck out nine Brewers at Miller Park back on June 24th, and in his most recent start, he spun an eight-inning gem in San Francisco against the Giants. His recent stats on the road coupled with this match-up against the White Sox make him my last ditch effort pitcher of the day. Mike Foltynewicz could also be considered in this spot as well.
MLB DRAFT DFS Picks – Today’s Top Hitter Targets:
Well this MLB DRAFT DFS Picks article continues to evolve and change as I see fit. Instead of giving you just four individual bats to target, today I am looking at specific teams to target, along with a couple of other random bats. I often find myself struggling to narrow this part four guys, simply because there are so many good plays. So let’s mix it up and get even a little more specific today.
Team Stacks:
Colorado Rockies – (Charlie Blackmon, Nolan Arenado, Carlos Gonzalez, Trevor Story)
We didn’t have an article yesterday as I was working on my PGA DRAFT piece, but it was a fade Coors day yesterday for me. That is not the case today. I want all of the Rockies I can today against Diamondbacks right-hander Shelby Miller. Miller has pitched just 14 innings in three starts, and has been awful. He has walked five, and given up 14 earned runs on 20 hits. Mix that with Coors Field and I am all-in. Even though I won’t be featuring them here, I like the Diamondbacks almost as much.
Cleveland Indians – (Francisco Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Michael Brantley)
Usually in you want the two infield Indians studs you will have to grab them in the first round. However with all of these options today, they are being slightly overlooked and falling into the second round. Both Lindor and JRam homered yesterday, and this team could be heating up here again. Brantley can be had in the last round to complete the stack, and I will like my chances if end up with all three and Sale or deGrom.
Individual Targets:
IF – J.D. Martinez – (5)
Normally I am stacking up the Red Sox, and if I can somehow get Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi I am all for it. However, after Coors Field, I think these Red Sox are the next top targets. Instead of stacking here, I am focusing on Martinez as a potential 2nd round pick and one-off. With the pitchers on the slate and the projections for the Coors game, it is very reasonable that JD slips a bit further than normal. The ageless Bartolo Colon will have the task of trying to slow these guys down, so the match-up is fantastic. If Coors wasn’t on the slate Betts, Benintendi, and Martinez would all likely be first round picks today.
OF – Mike Trout – (10)
Wow 10th overall! Trout is by no means in a slump and is one of the greatest to play the game. He will even be facing a lefty tonight in Marco Gonzales. If that doesn’t explain how well we are running with good match-ups today than I am clearly not getting through to you. The All-Star starter sits at a .312 average, with 25 homers and 50 RBI’s. With seven outfielders with higher projections today, Trout is going as late as the third round, and is a second round steal in any draft in my opinion.
