. 2B. Colorado Rockies. D.J. LeMahieu. 3. player. 108

LeMahieu’s batting average is down from his .300-plus standard of recent years, at .270, and he missed three weeks with left thumb and left wrist issues. But he has already matched his home run total from last year (eight), with 33 RBI, 19 doubles and 46 runs scored over 278 at-bats.

LeMahieu is also set to become a free agent after the season, so he would be a prime trade candidate if the Rockies start to fade from the postseason race. They also have significant commitments to just a handful of players next year, with Nolan Arenado hitting free agency after the 2019 season and set to break the bank with a new deal. Former first-round pick Brendan Rodgers is also knocking on the door of the big leagues, with 17 home runs in 82 games at Double-A so far this season, and he’s an option to take over second base for Colorado as soon as Opening Day next year.

LeMahieu has said he’d like to stay with the Rockies long-term, citing the usual things about his relationships with teammates and manager Bud Black while lauding the appeal of Denver as a city and the future of the team.

He’d be a key component to any push for a playoff spot down the stretch. But LeMahieu may not be long for a Rockies’ uniform.
