It’s national hot dog day, and who loves hot dogs more than Pittsburgh Penguins stud goal-scoring machine, Phil Kessel? Be like Phil and grab a nice hot frank while enjoying one of the greatest days of the year.

Happy national hot dog day, Phil Kessel!

Though it may seem like a random summer day to most players enjoying their NHL offseason, the league’s premier scoring expert and hot dog lover Phil Kessel is more excited about today than most. To Phil, today is the day.

National hot dog day is not only a day to celebrate everything good about America, it’s a day to celebrate our favorite hot dog loving hockey player and his trip to the golf course after winning the Stanley Cup in 2017.

Has the entire Phil Kessel story been blown out of the water? Probably. Frankly, this “Kessel loves hot dogs more than he loves hockey” rhetoric has been played out for a dog’s age. For some reason, we just can’t get enough of it.

By their standards, the Pittsburgh Penguins endured a slightly down year in 2017-18. By that I mean they did not win the Stanley Cup. Despite a lack of scoring from Phil Kessel in the playoffs (one goal, eight assists in 12 games), he is coming off one of the better statistical seasons of his career.

Relish the fact that even though your team wasn’t very good, Phil Kessel scored 32 goals and had 58 assists in his 12th year in the league. He’s gotten statistically better over the last three seasons and will likely grill-up another all-star caliber year in 2018/19.

Put those thoughts on the back burner for now, though. Today is a day in which we think about Phil Kessel. Today, we imagine Kessel at peace, enjoying a well-earned juicy hot dog poolside, on a beach or on a golf course somewhere in the great United States of America. We should all be doing the same.

Sit your buns down somewhere with a view and a barbecue and enjoy a fresh hot dog. You can ketchup on that work you were supposed to do tomorrow. Today, we’re all Phil Kessel.

Happy #NationalHotDogDay, everyone.
