Fortnite Friday is a weekly review of what is going on in the world of Fortnite. We cover the battle pass challenges, new game modes and any update information you need to know.

Fortnite Friday is a weekly column covering everything happening around the popular 100-person multiplayer showdown game, Fortnite: Battle Royale. This week, we cover some fun battle pass challenges and a brand new (kind of) weapon that absolutely mows down opponents.

Before we get to the fun stuff, we’ll start with the battle pass challenges, as usual. If you have yet to complete the week 1 challenges (damn llama) you can find the guide to those here. Also, you’ll notice that the challenges are broken into two parts. For season 5, non battle pass owners will be given three challenges per week.

That being said, everyone should still purchase battle pass if they can. It makes the game way more fun and adds a challenge to kill down time in between squad sessions.

Here’s how to complete the week 2 battle pass challenges.

Battle pass challenges: Week 2

Free challenges

Deal damage with assault rifles to opponents (0/1000)

We’ve seen this one before. Epic cycles through these “deal damage with” tasks each season and this one might as well be your freebie. Dealing damage with the assault rifle will come naturally through the week. Don’t even worry about it.

Search 7 ammo boxes in a single match (0/7)

This challenge popped up last season and had people in a bit of a panic to find ammo boxes until they realized they were just about everywhere. A thank you to Epic for making us all better players. The houses at Snobby Shores are packed with ammo boxes, especially the southernmost house with the secret basement. Otherwise just keep an eye out for the little green boxes as you move around the map. They aren’t hard to find.

Eliminate opponents in Paradise Palms (0/3)

The rival to Tilted Towers is still as busy as ever. Paradise Palms still has that new location smell and it’s actually a really fun drop zone. Get into the action, grab a weapon and take out the three people that you beat to the first chest. Your matches may not last long here but neither will this challenge.

Battle pass challenges

Score a basket on different hoops (0/5)

One of the cool new features that Epic added for season 5 is the ability to shoot hoops and play golf. They are picked up as emotes and what better way to have everyone try them out than putting them in a challenge. Here are the hoop locations on the map.

Search chests in Loot Lake (0/7)

Why? Why Loot Lake. This challenge will be an absolute mess early in the week so if you hate Loot Lake to begin with, do not complete this until next Wednesday. There are a couple chest spawns in the house, a couple in the boats/islands around the lake, and a few in the two outer areas (factories to the west and the fancy house/tower to the north). Chip away by getting one or two chests per match, but make sure you time your drop properly.

Search between an oasis, a rock archway and dinosaurs (0/1)

The oasis, archway and dinosaur are all in the new Fortnite badlands (Paradise Palms area). Here is where you can find the battle star:

Sniper rifle eliminations (0/2)

Hopefully you are decent with the sniper rifle. If not, remember that the hunting rifles count towards this challenge and are easier to aim/shoot in closer range. Aim for the head, you only need two of these.

Update v5.0 patch notes and news

Submachine gun – I know. The tactical SMG is gone and you are livid. Well guess what, that’s life and it’s time to move on. The new submachine gun is currently the most ridiculously overpowered, accurate, death-bringing machine. Even the common (grey) version of this weapon annihilates opponents.

The best part about it is that its accuracy, stability and fire rate are so high that you can use it as you used to use a shotgun in close range (now that shotguns suck) or as an assault rifle when rushing bases. This weapon is great and you should start using it immediately. Personally, I stack two of them when I can.

Summer Skirmish returnsFortnite‘s Summer Skirmish, a competitive gaming competition, returns today with $1,000,000 on the line. Here is where you can watch the tournament:

Elimination of the week

This week’s EOTW is ruthless. This is about the only good time to use a pump shotgun since they are now trash for every other situation. Great landing skills on display here.
