MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: July 20th
MLB DFS Picks – Standouts: July 20th
Tonight’s MLB DFS Picks slate features 14 games with, Cleveland (5.6), Boston (5), Los Angeles (5), Seattle (5), and New York (4.9), holding the best projected team totals. There aren’t many expensive pitchers on the slate, so finding players in advantageous matchups should take precedence tonight. We’ll be aiming to highlight MLB DFS picks from the perspective of batted ball data, batter splits, line movement, and stolen base upside.
MLB DFS Picks: Batted Ball Stats
Eddie Rosario – DK $4500, FD $3500
Given the layoff, recent batted ball data shouldn’t matter as much tonight, however, we can look to exploit price drops where the batter was actually hitting the ball well, before the break. One example of this is Eddie Rosario. Rosario is in play on both sites, but is significantly discounted on FanDuel at only $3500. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 14 feet, his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 7%, over his yearly average. Given this information you would think that his price would have gone up or at least remained the same. However, his price has dropped quite a bit. Rosario cost as much as $5500 in late June, over $1000 more than his price on DraftKings tonight, $4500.

Batter Splits
Didi Gregorious – DK $4500, FD $3900
The Yankees money line has seen significant movement since opening, and Didi Gregorious could be a beneficiary. Gregorious will face off against the righty, Noah Syndergaard. Gregorious is much better against right-handed pitching, with a .355 wOBA split (.051 better than when facing a lefty) and a .252 ISO split (.138 better than when facing a lefty).
Brandon Guyer – DK $3300, FD $2000
Brandon Guyer will draw an advantageous matchup, as he’ll face the lefty, Martin Perez. Guyer is much better against left-handed pitching, with a .387 wOBA split (.219 better than when facing a righty) and a .169 ISO split (.132 better than when facing a righty). Guyer is in play on both sites, but is much more attractive on FanDuel, at $2000.
Line Movement
German Marquez and Robbie Ray
Colorado will open up the second half of the season on the road in Arizona tonight. While the money line hasn’t seen much movement, the game total is much different story. The game total opened at 8.5 runs, but has since dropped a full run, to 7.5 runs. This is a significant move, especially given that the betting tickets are close to a 50/50 split on the over/under. Marquez offers more value on DraftKings, and Ray offers more value on FanDuel, but both will be viable options tonight.
Stolen Base Upside
Billy Hamilton – DK $4200, FD $2800
Unfortunately, Billy Hamilton has been hitting in the bottom of the order for most of this season, negating most of his value, but when he’s in a good matchup, and cheap, he’s worth considering. Tonight he’ll face off against the righty, Jameson Taillon. Taillon has surrendered 8 stolen bases over the course of 106 innings pitched. This should benefit Hamilton who has stolen 22 bases (tied for 4th most).
