The Open 2018 leaderboard: Who is leading after Round 3?
By Kyle Walton
Moving day has come and gone at the Open Championship and while plenty of players shot low scores at Carnoustie who currently leads the field and who still has a chance come Sunday?
When golf fans think of Carnoustie, a mild Saturday full of sunshine, low winds and even lower scores often isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Entering the weekend, contenders are typically trying to hang on for dear life while navigating tricky winds and difficult greens. Luckily for the remaining 79 players in the field at the Open Championship they were gifted some of the best conditions in recent Open memory for their Saturday in Scotland.
After needing a birdie putt on his final Friday hole just to make the cut Justin Rose took advantage of the conditions to put himself back into contention. Rose turned in a bogey free round of 7-under climb from closing out the leaderboard to a tie for sixth. Chris Wood put on a show as well in the morning groups coming from seemingly out of nowhere to shoot a 5-under round of 66.

With a veritable who’s who of contenders all within four shots the day belonged to the reigning Open champion Jordan Spieth. The defending champ began the third round of play three strokes off the leaders Kevin Kisner and Zach Johnson. By days end Spieth shot a 6-under round to pull even with Kisner and the 2017 PGA Rookie of the Year Xander Schauffele at 9-under par.

While still four strokes off the lead, the eyes of Carnoustie will undoubtedly be on the iconic Sunday red shirt of Tiger Woods. Back in major contention for the first time since 2013, Woods seemingly turned back the clock with a 5-under round to give him a viable chance at hoisting the Claret Jug for the fourth time in his career. The winds are expected to howl around Scotland ushering in the 2018 Open Champion as well as plenty of Sunday drama around the course.
