2. Daniel Murphy to the Red Sox

The Washington Nationals are in third place in the NL East and have had a disappointing season to date. Most of the year they were without Daniel Murphy, who just recently came back from injury. After back to back All-Star games, Murph is hitting just .253 with 1 home run in 29 games.

They’ve gotten by with Wilmer Difo most of the season and can continue to get by with him to replace Daniel Murphy especially if they can improve other areas.

In this scenario, the Red Sox drastically improve at the second base position. Dustin Pedroia has played just three games this year and Eduardo Nunez hasn’t been very good for them as his replacement. Murphy is a solid rental with some postseason heroics under his belt.

As for the Nationals, Bobby Poyner can help them out right now. Poyner is a reliever who constantly floats between AAA and the MLB but when he’s pitched for Boston this year he’s been effective.

The 25-year-old as a 1.69 ERA in 10 games in the MLB. The lefty also has a 2.70 ERA in the minors this year as well. Then the second piece, Roldani Baldwin, is a catching prospect. Last year in A ball he had 14 home runs while hitting .276. He’s likely a couple years away, but he plays a position that lacks depth for the Nationals.

The Red Sox get their upgrade for a playoff run, and the Nats bolster up their Pen and gain a prospect with a chance to make a run at the NL East or a Wild Card spot.
